"Don't Fence Me In"

Series, 1980

I began this series while teaching at the Summer Vail Workshops in Colorado. I have always been fascinated by the American bison as a symbol of the West and the American Indians of the plains. One of the pieces in this series was purchased by a museum in Zurich, Switzerland

Birdhouse

This is a birdhouse in the image of Edvard Munch’s 1893 painting, "The Scream". In the collection of Anne Hauberg.

I was walking along a path with two friends - the sun was setting - suddenly the sky turned blood red - I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence - there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city - my friends walked on, and I stood there trembling with anxiety - and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature. – Edvard Munch
